Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of health care workers in CYPRUS

Introduction The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has a great impact on health care workers (HCWs) who are exposed to high levels of stress and trauma leading negative mental outcomes, including stress-related symptoms depressive symptoms. Objectives aim this study was investigate the prevalence symptoms, anxiety post traumatic related COVID 19 pandemic in Cyprus. Methods In cross-sectional study, we report outcomes among HCWs Data were collected between May 3rd 27th, 2020, using an online questionnaire that included demographics, 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), assessing Impact Events Scale Revised (IES-R) measuring PTSD 10 item Perceived Stress (PSS) stress. Results 424 Care Workers participated study. 79 (18,6%) scored PHQ-9 above cut-off for depression while 62 (14,6%) enough IES-R indicating diagnosis post-traumatic disorder. significantly higher nurses compared doctors other HCWs. (20.7% versus 10.8%; adjusted ratio, 1.70 [95% CI, 1.06 2.73]), after adjustment age sex. Conclusions Even countries like Cyprus with minimum COVID-19 pandemic, is substantial being more vulnerable.
